The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, has called on the United States and Iran to make serious efforts to reach a lasting resolution to their conflict, stressing that upcoming talks present an important opportunity to reduce tensions and promote regional stability.
A spokesperson for the Secretary-General said Guterres emphasized the need for both sides to seize this opportunity and engage in good faith in order to achieve a comprehensive and durable agreement aimed at halting escalation and preventing a return to hostilities.
Talks between the two sides are scheduled to begin on Saturday in Islamabad, as part of diplomatic efforts to address key disputes and ease regional tensions.
The U.S. delegation is set to be led by J. D. Vance, while the Iranian side will be headed by Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. The Iranian delegation is also expected to include Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials.
The talks come at a time of heightened tensions across the region, amid increasing international calls for diplomatic solutions and direct dialogue to prevent further escalation and achieve a sustainable political settlement.
