The United Nations human rights chief has warned against escalating inflammatory rhetoric during ongoing conflicts, stressing the need to protect civilians and uphold international law.

Volker Türk described recent hostile discourse as dangerous, cautioning that threats targeting civilians or critical infrastructure could amount to serious international crimes.

He emphasized that international humanitarian law strictly prohibits attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, noting that such acts may constitute war crimes and must be investigated.

Türk also warned that incitement and dehumanizing rhetoric can fuel violence and increase the risk of atrocity crimes, urging all parties to exercise restraint in both language and military actions.

The United Nations has repeatedly called for accountability and adherence to international law, amid growing concerns over the humanitarian impact of ongoing conflicts.
