Border Crossing Closed Between Syria, Lebanon After Israeli Evacuation Warning
————————————-
Authorities in Syria and Lebanon have temporarily closed and evacuated the key border crossing at Masnaa (also known as Jdeidet Yabous), following an urgent warning issued by the Israel Defense Forces that the site could soon be struck amid escalating regional tensions.
On Saturday, the Israeli military released a statement urging all civilians and travelers near the crossing, as well as those along the adjacent M30 road, to leave the area immediately for their safety, claiming that the border point was allegedly being used by Hezbollah for military purposes and to smuggle combat equipment.
In response to the warning, both Syrian and Lebanese authorities suspended movement through the Masnaa crossing. The Syrian Authority for Border Crossings and Customs described the crossing as designated strictly for civilian use and said no armed groups or militias operate there. The agency added that operations would resume once the security situation stabilizes.
Lebanese officials similarly denied claims of arms smuggling through the crossing, with the transport minister emphasizing that security services closely inspect and control traffic at the border.
Images and reports from the area show the Masnaa crossing being cleared of personnel and civilians as a precautionary measure.
The Masnaa/Jdeidet Yabous crossing is the main land link between Syria and Lebanon, vital for civilian travel and trade. Its closure underscores rising tensions along the border amid the broader conflict involving Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon, and has raised concerns about wider disruptions to cross‑border movement and humanitarian access.
