Karbala’s Holy Shrines Draped in Mourning for Anniversary of Al-Baqi Demolition
————————————
Signs of grief and mourning have begun to spread across the holy shrines in the sacred city of Karbala, marking the anniversary of the destruction of the graves of the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt in Al-Baqi Cemetery.
Since Friday, the shrines of Imam al-Hussein and his loyal brother the Honourable Abal-Fazl al-Abbas (peace be upon them both) have been adorned with black banners bearing expressions of sorrow and condolences over the tragic demolition of the sacred graves in Al-Baqi — an event that continues to pain the hearts of believers and the followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
According to the correspondent of the Shia Waves Agency, mourning symbols and black drapery have spread throughout the courtyards and walls of the holy shrines, reflecting the deep sense of loss associated with the destruction of the graves of the Imams — an act perpetrated by demonic Wahhabi and Salafi forces more than a century ago.
Similarly, the Holy Shrines in Najaf al-Ashraf, Kadhimayn, and Samera have been draped in black to mourn the occasion, with banners bearing phrases calling for the reappearance of the Avenger of Ale Muhammad (peace be upon them).
Millions of Shia Muslims around the world are expected to mark what has come to be known as “Al-Baqi Day,” an occasion promoted in recent years by Grand Ayatollah Syed Sadiq al-Hussaini al-Shirazi. Commemorations include mourning gatherings, educational events, and renewed calls for justice.
Participants and religious figures continue to urge the Saudi authorities and relevant international bodies to rebuild and restore the graves of the Imams of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in Al-Baqi, emphasizing that the site represents a vital part of Islamic heritage and the spiritual identity of millions of believers.
