The Imam al-Baqir Center was officially inaugurated in South London, in the presence of prominent scholars, preachers, and representatives of religious authorities from across the United Kingdom and several European and Scandinavian countries.
The opening ceremony brought together Friday prayer leaders, religious figures, and community representatives, marking the establishment of a new institution aimed at strengthening religious and cultural engagement among Muslim communities, particularly followers of the school of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
During the event, Sayyid Murtadha al-Kashmiri delivered a keynote address, highlighting the significance of naming the center after Imam Muhammad al-Baqir (peace be upon him). He described the initiative as a continuation of the intellectual and spiritual legacy of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), emphasizing their historical role in advancing knowledge, scholarship, and dialogue within Islamic civilization.
Al-Kashmiri noted that Imam al-Baqir is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Islamic scholarship, whose teachings contributed to the development of various fields of knowledge. He expressed hope that the center would serve as a platform for promoting this legacy, particularly among younger generations, and fostering a deeper understanding of authentic Islamic values.
In his remarks, he also addressed ongoing humanitarian challenges affecting the Muslim world, expressing solidarity with those impacted by conflict and hardship, and calling for greater compassion, unity, and support for the oppressed.
The newly inaugurated center is affiliated with the Council of Scholars in the United Kingdom and is expected to play a key role in enhancing religious, educational, and social activities, while strengthening connections within Muslim communities in Europe.
