Human Rights Watch Warns Attacks on Energy Infrastructure Endanger Civilians
———————————-
Human Rights Watch (HRW) has warned that recent attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East pose serious risks to civilians, regional stability, and the environment. The organization highlighted strikes on major facilities, including Iran’s South Pars gas field and energy installations in Qatar’s Ras Laffan area, noting their critical role in energy production.
Michael Page, HRW’s Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa, emphasized that targeting such infrastructure can have humanitarian, economic, and environmental consequences. HRW called on all parties to immediately cease attacks on civilian energy facilities and avoid actions that could harm local populations.
The organization also noted that continued strikes could disrupt energy supplies and contribute to broader regional instability, stressing the urgent need for restraint and adherence to international humanitarian law.
