Syrian Rights Center Condemns Takfiri Fatwas Against Shia Community

The Documentation Center for Violations Against Shiites in Syria has issued a strong statement condemning fatwas issued by Osama Abdul Karim Al-Rifai against Twelver Shia Muslims, describing them as a serious threat to national cohesion and internal security, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.

The center warned that such Takfiri religious decrees, particularly when issued by a figure with public religious authority, can incite violence, deepen sectarian divisions, and endanger civilian safety.

According to the statement, promoting these types of statements risks exacerbating social divides and undermining long-standing coexistence among religious groups. The organization emphasized that labeling historically established religious groups as heretical not only threatens peaceful coexistence but also poses significant dangers to societal stability and public security.

The rights center called on religious institutions, human rights organizations, and the international community to take clear positions against such provocative statements and prevent their dissemination. The goal, the statement said, is to protect public safety, preserve social peace, and strengthen values of peaceful coexistence among Syria’s diverse communities.
