Middle East War: Over 1,000 Killed in Lebanon as Strikes Hit Iran Nuclear Site and Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

Escalating conflict linked to the war involving Iran and Israeli-U.S. military operations has left more than 1,000 people dead and 2,584 injured in Lebanon since early March, according to United Nations officials.
The UN warned that the scale of violence is severely impacting civilians, with children killed or wounded at a rate equivalent to “one classroom a day,” according to UNICEF. Attacks have also hit healthcare systems, leaving five hospitals and dozens of health centres out of service, while at least 31 healthcare workers have been killed.
Displacement has surged, with over 1.2 million people forced from their homes, many sheltering in overcrowded facilities lacking basic services. Schools have been widely repurposed as shelters, disrupting education for thousands. Infrastructure damage, including to roads, water systems and fuel stations, has further hindered humanitarian aid delivery.
Fighting has intensified along southern Lebanon and the Blue Line, with additional civilian casualties reported, including a journalist.
Meanwhile, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility was struck, though no radiation increase was detected.
UN agencies warned the conflict could push up to 45 million people into extreme hunger, as displacement spreads across the region and beyond.
