March 18 Marks World Recycling Day: Importance of Environmental Protection in Islamic Teachings
—————————————
March 18 is celebrated annually as World Recycling Day, a day aimed at raising public awareness about reducing waste, using natural resources responsibly, and protecting the environment.

Recycling not only decreases consumption of the Earth’s limited resources but also helps prevent air, soil, and water pollution.

From a religious perspective, these actions hold special significance. The Qur’an calls on humans to preserve the Earth and use divine resources wisely. In Surah al-A‘raf, verse 56, it states:
“Do not cause corruption on the Earth after it has been set in order.”

The Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) also emphasized moderation, avoiding wastefulness, and protecting the Earth. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said:
“None of you should throw your waste on the road or use it to harm others.”

On World Recycling Day, environmental organizations encourage people to separate waste, reduce plastic use, and reuse materials, contributing to the protection of creation.

Such practices reflect adherence to Islamic teachings and the example of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them) in safeguarding the Earth and its divine resources, helping to preserve the environment for future generations.
