CAIR Report Warns of Record Anti-Muslim Discrimination in United States in 2025

According to a new report by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, anti-Muslim discrimination in the United States reached its highest recorded level in 2025, with the group documenting 8,683 complaints nationwide.

The annual civil rights report, cited by Al Jazeera Media Network, described the situation as a “broad attack on Muslim life,” warning that anti-Muslim rhetoric and policy decisions have contributed to an increasingly hostile environment for Muslims across the country.

CAIR said the number of complaints recorded in 2025 represents the highest total since the organization began publishing its annual civil rights report in 1996. The group attributed the increase to several factors, including inflammatory political rhetoric, changes to civil rights enforcement under the administration of Donald Trump, and tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving the Iran.

The report also highlighted legislative initiatives and political campaigns that, according to the organization, portray Muslim religious identity as incompatible with American civic life. CAIR noted that at least five federal legislative proposals introduced in recent years have sought to restrict Islamic practices or the entry of Muslims into the country.

Regionally, states such as Minnesota, Florida, Texas, Illinois, and Oklahoma recorded significant increases in complaints in recent years.

The report also pointed to rising online hate speech targeting Muslims since the escalation of the war involving Iran, warning that such rhetoric could further fuel discrimination and social tensions.
