The Shia Muslim community in Barcelona, Spain, commemorated the martyrdom of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), which falls on the 21st of Ramadan, with a large mourning procession through the city’s streets, marked by an atmosphere of sorrow and reflection.
According to Imam Barjah Al-Qaim Barcelona, as reported by Shia News Agency, the Ramadan events in Barcelona included multiple religious activities, with the central feature being a large procession in the Ciutat Vella area. The march included a symbolic funeral of the Imam’s bier, honoring the profound loss of his martyrdom.
Participants expressed deep grief and reaffirmed their commitment to Imam Ali’s (peace be upon him) principles of justice, sacrifice, and support for the oppressed, highlighting his revered status in Islamic tradition, especially among followers of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them).
The report noted that the Shia presence in Barcelona dates back to the 1980s and expanded in the 1990s with the arrival of Pakistani and Lebanese refugees. The establishment of the first Hussainiya in the city provided a central venue for observing religious occasions and holding rituals.
