Al-Azhar Urges International Community to End Conflict, Protect Civilians in Middle East

Al-Azhar, one of the leading Islamic institutions, has called on the international community to take immediate action to restore peace in the Middle East and prevent further escalation of conflicts, urging a “decisive move to extinguish the flames of war that civilians are paying the price for.”
According to international media reports, Al-Azhar stressed that all parties must exercise restraint, prioritize wisdom and humanity, and return to negotiations without delay to avoid additional human losses and worsening humanitarian conditions.
In a related diplomatic development, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati held phone conversations with Hungarian Foreign Minister Nadina Ninski and Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović. The discussions focused on the regional security and stability implications of escalating military tensions.
During the calls, Abdel Aati outlined Egypt’s assessment of the ongoing situation, emphasizing Cairo’s position calling for de-escalation and adherence to political and diplomatic solutions to prevent the region from sliding into a broader conflict. He highlighted that continued escalation would only complicate the situation and increase civilian suffering, underscoring the need to respect state sovereignty, uphold good neighborly relations, and intensify regional and international efforts to contain the crisis.
These appeals come amid heightened confrontations that began last Saturday, following wide-scale US and Israeli attacks on Iran, which resulted in hundreds of casualties and significant material damage. In response, Tehran launched drone and missile strikes targeting US and Israeli positions in the region, further intensifying regional tensions.
