Australia Foils Terror Plot Targeting Mosques and Government Institutions
————————————
Australian authorities announced they have thwarted a terrorist plot aimed at several mosques and government buildings in Western Australia, arresting a 20-year-old man from Bendon, approximately 63 kilometers north of Perth. He has been charged with planning a terrorist act.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described the incident as “deeply shocking” and stressed that the suspect must face “the full force of the law,” highlighting the severity of the alleged plot against the Muslim community, law enforcement, and the state legislature.

Police reported that the suspect had prepared a statement detailing plans for an attack intended to cause mass casualties, targeting mosques in Western Australia as well as the state police headquarters and parliamentary building. Authorities described the plot as “extremely concerning” due to its racially motivated nature.

This case follows a series of security incidents labeled as terrorist threats in recent months, including a foiled bomb attempt at a public gathering in Perth on 26 January 2026. Investigations are ongoing, with authorities reinforcing security measures and monitoring potential threats to places of worship and public facilities.

According to the 2021 Australian Census, Muslims make up around 3.2% of the national population, emphasizing the importance of protecting religious sites and ensuring community safety.
