Sudanese RSF kill at least 28 people in an attack in Darfur, medical group says

At least 28 people, including civilians, were killed and 39 others injured in an attack by Sudanese paramilitary forces on the town of Misteriha, a stronghold of Darfur tribal leader Musa Hilal, according to the Sudan Doctors Network. The incident is part of the ongoing conflict between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudanese army, which erupted in 2023 and has since devastated the country.
The RSF reportedly launched drone strikes on Hilal’s guesthouse over the weekend before a major ground offensive on Monday, seizing the town. Shelling hit the local health care center, and medical staff were assaulted, with at least one detained. Independent observers noted that many homes were torched, forcing residents to flee to nearby villages.
The conflict has already displaced over 14 million people, caused widespread famine and disease, and drawn international concern for escalating tribal tensions. A recent report warned that severe acute malnutrition could affect up to 800,000 people this year. Aid organizations continue to call for a ceasefire to allow humanitarian access to affected areas.
