Syria’s Julani Orders Pardon for Uyghur Fighter Accused of Massacres of Syrian Alawites

Abu Dujana, a Uyghur fighter accused of involvement in massacres in Alawite-majority areas of Syria, has been released following a general pardon issued by Abu Mohammad al-Julani, Syria’s self-declared head of state.

According to Radio Sham FM, the detainee, who was arrested in October 2025, was freed after several months of imprisonment in Idlib. At the same time, dozens of other prisoners were reportedly released in Raqqa.

It should be mentioned that Abu Mohammad al‑Julani was the leader of Hayat Tahrir al‑Sham (HTS), a powerful armed faction that exercised control over significant parts of northwest Syria, including much of Idlib Province, before the fall of Asad. HTS originated from former al‑Qaeda‑linked groups.
