Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has warned of growing racial and religious divisions worldwide, cautioning against the spread of extremism and hate speech and urging efforts to preserve national unity and social stability.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Ministry of National Unity, Anwar said the rising wave of fascism, racism, and Islamophobia in Europe and the United States is a cause for serious concern. He noted that such trends are no longer confined to fringe groups but have also appeared among educated segments of society.
The prime minister stressed that these developments should not be underestimated, warning that hostility toward minorities and followers of different religions is intensifying. He expressed concern over the growth of racial and religious sentiments that lack rational foundations and social awareness, describing them as among the most dangerous challenges facing contemporary societies.
Anwar emphasized that confronting these trends requires wisdom, public awareness, and strong social cohesion to prevent divisions from deepening within communities.
In his concluding remarks, the Malaysian leader highlighted the key role of the Ministry of National Unity in strengthening social solidarity and promoting religious and ethnic tolerance. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Malaysia from any form of division or discord that could threaten national peace, stability, and development.
