Loyal Shia communities across the world are commemorating the blessed anniversary of the birth of Sayyida Ruqayyah, the beloved daughter of Imam Hussein (peace be upon them), which—according to some Shia tradition—falls on the twenty-third day of the sacred month of Sha‘ban.

Her Majesty is widely known as Baab al-Hawa’ij (gate to needs and pleas). Numerous Husseiniyas and Shia centers worldwide marked the auspicious occasion by holding commemorative celebrations and gatherings.

In separate remarks to a correspondent of Shia Waves Agency, devotees recalled the noble life of Sayyida Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) and the hardships she endured during her short but profound life.

The faithful said that despite her young age, Sayyida Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) left a deep and lasting impact on their hearts because of her sacrifices and the suffering she endured following the martyrdom of her father, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him).

They added that Sayyida Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) was known for resembling her grandmother, the pure and truthful Sayyida Fatimah al-Zahra (peace be upon her). They described her as the “Princess of Damascus,” noting that her blessed shrine in the Syrian capital continues to radiate spiritual grace and blessings upon the lovers and followers of the purified Household of the Prophet (peace be upon them).

The participants emphasized that commemorating the birth of this great lady represents a revival of lofty values and true principles, embodying the meaning of sacrifice in the path of divine truth.

Sayyida Ruqayyah (peace be upon her) witnessed the tragedy of Karbala at the age of three, seeing with her own eyes the immense calamity that befell her father, Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), his family, and his companions. She was later taken captive with the rest of the Household to Kufa and then to Damascus, where she ultimately attained martyrdom.
