Nonviolence Organization Calls for Human Brotherhood and Peaceful Coexistence on International Human Fraternity Day
———————————
The World Nonviolence Organization (FreeMuslim Association) issued a statement on the occasion of International Human Fraternity Day, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among all people and urging the rejection of violence in favor of peaceful coexistence.
In its statement, the organization highlighted that the day serves as a moral reminder of the shared human bonds that connect people across different religions, cultures, and ethnicities. It stressed that diversity should be a source of understanding and cooperation rather than division or conflict.
The organization cited the Quranic verse: “O mankind! We created you from a male and a female and made you into peoples and tribes so that you may know one another” (Surah Al-Hujurat, 49:13), describing it as a divine call that frames diversity within an ethical framework promoting mutual respect and peaceful interaction.
The statement also referenced a teaching of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him): “People are of two kinds: either your brother in faith or your equal in humanity,” highlighting it as a foundational text establishing the concept of human fraternity in Islamic thought.
At the same time, the organization expressed concern over ongoing wars, conflicts, and human rights violations in several Arab countries, including Syria, Palestine, Sudan, and Yemen, calling these crises a severe deviation from the principles of human fraternity. It warned that sectarian rhetoric and exclusionary ideologies exacerbate violence, undermine social cohesion, and obstruct efforts toward coexistence and stability.
The statement urged governments, religious institutions, and civil society to adopt the principle of “equal in humanity” as a practical guide in public policies and social relations, to criminalize actions or speech that diminish human dignity, and to commit to an immediate end to armed violence. Dialogue and reconciliation were emphasized as essential tools for fostering human fraternity.
Education reform was also highlighted, with a call to instill values of pluralism, mutual respect, and peace culture in school curricula to counter prejudice and promote social cohesion. The organization underscored that solidarity with oppressed populations, particularly the Palestinian people, is a critical component of human fraternity.
The World Nonviolence Organization concluded that the restoration of stability and ethical strength in the Arab world requires a genuine return to justice, equality, and respect for human dignity without discrimination, where the principle of human brotherhood guides all human interactions.
