Syrian Government and SDF Agree to Ceasefire and Integration Deal

The Syrian government and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Friday that they had reached a comprehensive ceasefire agreement, coupled with a phased integration of military and administrative structures into the Syrian state, Arab News reported.

Under the deal, forces positioned along front lines in northern Syria will withdraw, while Interior Ministry security units will deploy to the centers of the northeastern cities of Hasakah and Qamishli, which are currently controlled by the SDF. Local security forces in these areas will be merged as part of the process.

The agreement follows recent advances by Syrian government forces under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who regained large areas of northern and eastern Syria this month, prompting SDF forces to retreat into a smaller enclave.

The deal also involves the creation of a new military division incorporating three SDF brigades, as well as a separate brigade in the SDF-held town of Kobani (Ain al-Arab), which will be affiliated with Aleppo governorate.

According to the SDF, the agreement aims to unify Syrian territory and support national reconstruction. A senior Syrian official said implementation would begin immediately. The US envoy to Syria described the deal as a historic step toward national reconciliation and lasting stability.
