France shuts down Muslim children’s center linked to a mosque

French authorities have ordered the closure of a Muslim educational center for children in eastern France, citing regulatory non-compliance related to its activities.
According to En.yabiladi.com, the Rhône Prefecture announced the decision against “The School of Success,” an education program linked to the Intercultural Center of Décines, which also houses the Ar-Rahman mosque near Lyon. According to the prefecture, inspectors found discrepancies between the association’s declared statutes and its actual operations.
An inspection by the Rhône Departmental Service for Youth, Engagement, and Sports concluded that the center was hosting up to 572 children on Wednesday afternoons and weekends outside school holidays, in return for an annual fee of €350, without having declared these activities to authorities. Officials said the activities met the legal definition of a “collective reception of minors,” for which the organization lacked the required authorization.
Authorities also said they were unable to verify the identity of all staff present or confirm the vaccination status of the children attending the center. The site had previously been referenced in a parliamentary report examining networks described as having Salafist or Muslim Brotherhood affiliations, a characterization noted by officials.
The prefecture said the center may reopen once corrective measures are implemented to bring its activities into compliance with French regulations.
