Muslim Police Officers in New York Seek Meeting with Donald Trump Amid Rising Islamophobia
————————————————
Muslim law enforcement officers in New York have formally requested a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump to raise concerns over the recent surge in Islamophobic attacks, but no response has yet been received, IQNA reported.
Approximately 900 Muslim police officers in New York, the largest such community in the country, submitted the request through Eric Adams, former president of Brooklyn Borough, highlighting what they describe as a “tense” national climate.
In a letter to Trump, Adams cited an alarming 115% increase in anti-Muslim violence in the weeks following the presidential campaign, noting that certain rhetoric during the election period may have contributed to legitimizing aggressive behavior.
The letter referenced the case of Aml Elsokary, a Muslim police officer lauded for her role in a 2014 heroic rescue, who was recently targeted by an Islamophobic attack while off duty with her son.
The officers hope the meeting would draw attention to the rise in hate crimes and encourage measures to protect Muslim communities and law enforcement personnel in New York.
