Turkish Newspaper Highlights Spiritual and Political Significance of Sahifa Sajjadiya

The Turkish newspaper YENI MESAJ published an analytical article examining the legacy of Imam Ali ibn al-Husayn Zain al-Abidin (peace be upon him) and his seminal work, the Sahifa Sajjadiya, describing it as a “scientific uprising” against Umayyad oppression. The article emphasizes that the text represents a comprehensive intellectual and spiritual project, expressed through supplications during a period of severe political repression.
According to the piece, the Sahifa Sajjadiya is more than a collection of prayers; it is a methodical compilation conveying the Imam’s vision of leadership, faith, and social guidance. Writing in the form of prayers allowed him to preserve and transmit knowledge safely at a time when open opposition, like that of Karbala, was impossible. This discreet approach ensured the survival of his teachings and the continuity of the intellectual heritage of the Imamate.
The article notes that Imam Zain al-Abidin used supplication as a tool for moral and social education, guiding the community in ways that could not be publicly advocated under the Umayyad regime. Through these prayers, he addressed ethical, political, and social challenges, fostering awareness of Islamic values while maintaining devotion to God as the central aim.
Finally, YENI MESAJ underscores the spiritual dimension of the Sahifa Sajjadiya, highlighting its lessons on approaching God with humility, love, and hope. The text blends fear and hope in prayer, offering a holistic moral and spiritual framework that remains relevant across generations.
