UK urges Elon Musk’s X to tackle AI deepfake abuse of women, girls

UK Technology Secretary Liz Kendall on Tuesday urged Elon Musk’s X platform to urgently address the use of its AI chatbot Grok to create non-consensual sexualized deepfake images of women and girls, Anadolu Agency reported.

According to the BBC, Kendall described the situation as “absolutely appalling,” and that “we cannot and will not allow the proliferation of these degrading images.”

She said it was “absolutely right that UK regulator Ofcom is looking into this as a matter of urgency and it has my full backing to take any enforcement action it deems necessary.”

On Sunday, the US based social media company X issued a warning to users not to use Grok to generate illegal content, including child sexual abuse material.

Musk also posted that anyone who asks the AI to generate illegal content would “suffer the same consequences” as if they uploaded it themselves.
