Guterres Denounces Fatal Attack on Syrian Mosque

A deadly attack on a mosque in the Syrian city of Homs has prompted strong international condemnation, with the United Nations chief stressing the need for accountability and denouncing the targeting of civilians and places of worship.
According to IQNA, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres unequivocally condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable and emphasizing that those responsible must be brought to justice. In a statement issued Friday, Guterres said attacks against civilians and houses of worship violate fundamental principles of international law, according to his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
The Secretary-General also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and expressed sympathy for those injured, wishing them a swift and full recovery, Dujarric said.
The attack occurred at the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon them both) Mosque on Al-Khodari Street in the Wadi al-Dhahab neighborhood of Homs. At least eight people were killed and 18 others injured in the incident, according to local reports.
Militant group Saraya Ansar al-Sunna claimed responsibility for the attack. The group had previously claimed involvement in an attack on a church in Damascus earlier this year.
The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of civilians and religious sites amid ongoing instability in parts of Syria.
