Jammu and Kashmir Leaders Criticise Bihar CM over Veil Incident
—————————–
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference MP Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi strongly condemned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over a controversial incident involving a Muslim woman’s veil.
According to Clarion India, a viral video showed Nitish Kumar allegedly pulling down the woman’s ‘naqaab’ during a felicitation event, Samvad, at the CM’s secretariat, where over 1,000 AYUSH doctors received appointment letters. The visuals sparked widespread criticism across social media and political circles, raising questions about respect for personal and religious dignity.
Mehbooba Mufti described the incident as “shocking and deeply disturbing,” questioning whether it reflected old age or the normalization of humiliating minorities publicly. She urged Kumar to introspect and consider stepping down, warning that such actions undermine public trust.
Similarly, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi called the act “indefensible” and demanded an unconditional apology, suggesting that the CM seek medical attention and step aside, citing concerns over his composure and suitability for office.
