Seventeen people were killed and at least 20 others injured after a bus carrying schoolchildren plunged off a cliff in a rural area of northern Colombia, local authorities said, reported by Reuters. The accident occurred in Antioquia department as the bus was traveling from the Caribbean town of Tolú to Medellín following a school trip.

Antioquia Governor Andrés Julián said the passengers were students from Antioqueño High School who had been celebrating their graduation at the beach. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, which has shocked the local community during the December holiday period.
