Grand Ayatollah Shirazi: God Tests Humans Through His Blessings to Evaluate Their Actions

The daily scholarly session of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Husayni Shirazi was held on Tuesday, the 10th of Jumada al-Thani, 1447.

As in previous sessions, the Supreme Marja addressed questions from attendees on various jurisprudential issues.

Regarding the reason humans are tested by God, His Eminence explained that Almighty God grants blessings to people in this world in order to test them. He referred to Quranic verse 14 of Surah Yunus: “Then We made you successors in the land after them, to see how you would act.” He noted that these divine tests are akin to a father giving money to his children to assess how they manage it and to evaluate their conduct.

The Marja further emphasized that God holds His servants accountable because accountability is an intrinsic part of testing, just as a father examines and judges the actions of his children.
