The global halal market’s expanding reach and consumer confidence continue to strengthen the sector, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a message to the opening of the World Halal Summit—Anadolu Agency reported. Erdoğan noted that last year’s summit hosted 50,000 visitors from 50 countries and over 500 companies, expressing confidence that participation would rise again this year. He said the halal industry has grown into a $7 trillion market, reflecting strong global demand for certified products and services.
Held in Istanbul alongside the Halal Expo, the summit convened industry players under the theme “Strengthening Halal Industry via Innovation and Excellence.” The 11th edition of the event, organized under the auspices of the Turkish presidency with support from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the Turkish Trade Ministry, and the Halal Accreditation Agency, ran from Nov. 26–29.
Turkish Trade Minister Ömer Bolat emphasized the need for stronger solidarity among Islamic nations amid rising global protectionism. Addressing the conflict in Gaza, he expressed condolences for civilian casualties and voiced hope for stability and reconstruction following the ceasefire agreement reached in Egypt. Fikri Ataoğlu, deputy prime minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, highlighted halal trade as both an economic driver and a diplomatic channel that enhances countries’ visibility and fosters cooperation.
Afghan Trade and Industry Minister Nureddin Azizi promoted Afghanistan’s investment potential, citing its resources, workforce, and regional connectivity. Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, described the summit as a key platform for advancing the halal economy and invited partners to support Nigeria’s efforts to expand its share of Africa’s halal food market.
