Gaza Hospitals Struggle Amid Renewed Israeli Airstrikes
………..
Hospitals in Gaza are facing severe shortages of essential medical supplies as renewed Israeli airstrikes have killed over 50 people and injured more than 100 in recent days, The Guardian reported. Medics report critically low stocks of gauze, antibiotics, thermometers, and antiseptics, while hospitals continue to cope with high numbers of casualties from ongoing violence.
Despite a US-backed ceasefire last month, airstrikes persist, with Israel targeting suspected Hamas militants and infrastructure. Gaza’s health ministry reports over 300 deaths since the ceasefire, and aid workers highlight the growing humanitarian crisis, including malnutrition, poor shelter, disease outbreaks, and staff shortages. Humanitarian organisations have delivered hundreds of tonnes of supplies, but resources remain insufficient to meet urgent needs.
The ceasefire’s next stage, supported by the UN Security Council, involves the creation of a Palestinian technocrat-led administrative committee and deployment of an international stabilisation force. However, violations on both sides, including recent Israeli strikes that killed civilians in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Khan Younis, have strained the agreement.
Aid delivery continues, though logistical challenges and ongoing hostilities hinder distribution. International agencies are coordinating with Israeli authorities to allow medical and food supplies into the territory, while Egypt, Qatar, and the US maintain mediation efforts. Gaza’s population continues to bear the consequences of prolonged conflict, with tens of thousands affected and thousands of bodies still unrecovered under rubble.
