Daesh-Linked Ambush Kills Four Security Personnel in Northeast Nigeria
…………..
Militants affiliated with the Daesh group ambushed Nigerian security forces in northeastern Borno state, killing two soldiers and two members of an anti-militant militia, security sources said Saturday, as reported by Arab News. The attack occurred Friday in Damboa district, where fighters from Daesh–West Africa Province (DaeshWAP) opened fire with heavy weapons on a motorcycle convoy comprising troops, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force and local hunters.
A military officer, speaking anonymously, confirmed the deaths and said the militants had staged the ambush on a patrol led by the local brigade commander, triggering a fierce exchange of fire. A UN situation report shared with aid agencies also confirmed the fatalities and noted that militants seized 17 motorcycles. Several soldiers were initially reported missing, but the brigade commander later returned to the base in Damboa, located about 90 kilometers from Maiduguri.
The incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by DaeshWAP, which has recently intensified attacks on security targets despite clashes with rival group Boko Haram over control of areas around Lake Chad. The wider insurgency in northeastern Nigeria has killed more than 40,000 people and displaced roughly two million since 2009, with violence spilling into neighboring Niger, Cameroon and Chad.
