Iran has launched the second phase of a campaign to deport undocumented Afghan migrants from Baharestan, near Tehran, Amu TV reported. According to the Taliban-run refugees commission, Iran has been deporting nearly 1,000 Afghans daily since early September, a decrease from previous months.

Tehran’s immigration authorities said over 450,000 undocumented Afghans have been returned from the province since the plan began. Officials claim most departures were voluntary, though rights groups dispute this, citing reports of forced removals and poor detention conditions.

The deportations come amid rising economic hardship and anti-migrant sentiment in Iran, which hosts between 3 and 5 million Afghans. The UN and humanitarian groups have urged Iran to halt mass expulsions and ensure protection for vulnerable refugees, including women and children.
