Mexico Floods Death Toll Climbs to 42, Thousands Displaced
……………..

The death toll from severe flooding that swept across numerous Mexican states has risen to 42 fatalities and 27 missing persons, according to initial data from civil defense authorities as search and rescue operations continue. Torrential rainfall affected 31 out of 32 states, triggering widespread flooding and devastating landslides that washed away homes and closed roads.

The central state of Hidalgo was hit hardest, reporting at least 22 deaths and damage to nearly a thousand homes. Other fatalities included nine in Puebla, five in Veracruz, and one in Querétaro. National Civil Defense Coordinator Laura Velazquez confirmed the floods caused massive landslides and river overflows, necessitating the opening of shelters for displaced residents.

President Claudia Sheinbaum stated the government is actively working on aid, road repairs, and restoring power, with thousands of soldiers and various relief assets deployed. Thousands remain without electricity as authorities warn of worsening conditions due to continued heavy rain, exacerbated by the tropical storms “Raymond” and “Priscilla.” Mexico has experienced unprecedented rainfall rates since early 2025.
