Al-Azhar Forum: Seas are ‘Living Witness’ to Quran’s Scientific Miracles

Al-Azhar Grand Mosque in Cairo hosted its weekly Interpretation Forum, where scholars asserted that the physical characteristics of seas and oceans serve as a “living witness” to the scientific miraculousness of the Quran, according to the International Quran News Agency (IQNA).

The forum, held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, focused on “Manifestations of Miraculousness in the Quran’s Discussion of the Seas.” Dr. Ramadan Al-Sawi, Vice President of Al-Azhar University, highlighted that the Quran accurately pointed to phenomena only recently discovered by modern science.

The most notable example discussed was the concept of an invisible barrier or barzakh that prevents the complete mixing of fresh and salt water where different seas meet, a phenomenon mentioned precisely in the Quranic text centuries before its scientific confirmation. Scholars emphasized that this precision in describing unobservable natural phenomena proves the Quran’s divine origin and enduring scientific relevance.
