UNICEF: 17 Children Killed in Attack on Displacement Center in Sudan’s North Darfur
…………….
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported that 17 children were killed in an attack on a displacement center in El Fasher, North Darfur, as violence in Sudan continues to devastate civilians.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell condemned the assault as “outrageous,” stressing that killing or injuring children is a grave violation of their rights and that targeting civilians in what should be safe havens is unacceptable.
The agency said the attack struck a facility sheltering families displaced by fighting. El Fasher has been under siege by the Rapid Support Forces for over 500 days, leaving residents with severe shortages of food, water, and medical aid.
UNICEF warned that repeated attacks, famine conditions, and rising child malnutrition are pushing the humanitarian crisis in Darfur to catastrophic levels, urging an immediate end to violence and unhindered humanitarian access.
