Authorities Make Arrests in India and Bangladesh Over Religious Incidents
———————————–
Authorities in India and Bangladesh have made arrests in separate incidents involving religious sensitivities that have drawn widespread public attention.

In Maharashtra, India, police detained an American national and two Indian citizens accused of attempting to convert Hindu villagers to Christianity, according to BBC via Shia Waves Persian. The arrests occurred near the city of Thane during a prayer meeting where the suspects allegedly distributed Christian literature and claimed faith-based healing powers. Officials said the case is being investigated under India’s anti-conversion laws, which criminalize religious conversion through inducement or coercion.

Meanwhile, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, police arrested a North South University student for allegedly desecrating the Qur’an. Videos circulating online reportedly showed the student tearing and trampling pages of the holy book, sparking outrage on social media and protests on campus. Authorities said legal action is underway as public calls for accountability continue to grow.
