Canadian Islamic Forum Warns Quebec Government Against Fuelling Islamophobia
……………..
The Canadian Muslim Forum (FMC-CMF) has voiced deep concern over remarks made by Quebec Premier François Legault and Minister Jean-François Roberge during the opening of the new parliamentary session. In a statement released Friday, the forum criticized Legault’s claim that Quebec is “under attack by radical Islamists” and his pledge to impose “new restrictions on freedoms in the name of secularism,” describing the language as divisive and alarming.
The FMC-CMF said the government has provided no evidence to support its assertions, warning that such rhetoric risks stigmatizing Quebec’s Muslim community and intensifying Islamophobia. It emphasized that portraying any group as a collective threat undermines social cohesion and fosters hostility.
The organization urged the Quebec government to adopt a responsible political approach focused on healthcare, education, housing, and dignity for all citizens, while respecting the province’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms and promoting unity over division.
