Taliban Publicly Flog Over 100 People in One Month
…………….
The Taliban flogged 114 people in public across Afghanistan over the past month, including 20 women, according to figures compiled by Amu TV from the group’s Supreme Court. The data show a sharp increase in cases, with overall punishments rising nearly fivefold compared to the previous month. Women’s cases also doubled during this period, from 10 to 20.
The floggings were carried out in at least 15 provinces, with Kabul, Parwan and Takhar recording the highest numbers. Women were among those punished in Ghor, Logar, Balkh, Laghman, Takhar, Badakhshan, Jawzjan and Baghlan, often on charges such as “running away from home” or “moral corruption.”
Human rights activists condemned the surge, saying it aims to instill fear and violates human dignity. U.N. rapporteur Richard Bennett told the Human Rights Council that 672 people have faced public floggings in Afghanistan so far this year. The Taliban defend the practice as part of Sharia enforcement.
