During his address at the Global Halal Summit, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called for a broader understanding of the concept of halal, The Korea Herald reported. He stated that it has evolved beyond a religious concept to become a universal value system that includes principles such as sustainability, integrity, ethical consumption, social justice, and human dignity.
The Prime Minister highlighted the halal industry as a key component of Malaysia’s national economy, with a goal for it to contribute 10.8 percent to the country’s GDP by 2030. The global halal market is currently valued at over $3.8 trillion and is projected to experience significant growth. Anwar also announced that the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2025 will utilize an AI-driven tool to improve cross-border business matching.
