In an inspiring story of perseverance, Kamela Najia Hassan Dhamreen, a 65-year-old Yemeni mother, has graduated from high school in 2025 together with her grandson, Yusuf.

According to The Japan Times, Dhamreen is the mother of Yemeni professor Marwan Dhamreen. Her journey back to education began after a painful experience during a trip to Japan, where a flight attendant’s dismissive behavior exposed the challenges she faced due to limited language and literacy skills.

Determined to overcome those obstacles, she returned to Yemen and enrolled in classes, pursuing education despite the hardships of war and the heavy responsibilities of caring for her family.

Years of persistence paid off when she stood side by side with her grandson at their high school graduation ceremony, symbolizing both personal achievement and the enduring value of education across generations.

Her accomplishment has been widely praised as a testament to resilience and the transformative power of learning, even in the most difficult circumstances.
