Turkish authorities have detained 161 individuals suspected of being members of the Islamic State group within the past week, ABC News reported citing Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.

According to Yerlikaya’s Friday post on X, the suspects were actively involved in the group and provided financial support. The arrests took place across 38 of Turkey’s 81 provinces, including Ankara, the capital, and Istanbul, the largest city. During the operations, police confiscated unlicensed firearms, IS-related documents, and digital materials.

Over the last decade, IS has executed multiple attacks in Turkey, notably a double bombing at a political rally in 2015 that resulted in over 100 deaths, marking the country’s deadliest terror incident.
