Germany Sees Sharp Rise in International Student Enrolment
——————————-
Germany has become an increasingly attractive destination for higher education, with the number of international students rising significantly over the past decade, Shia Waves Persian reported.
According to the OECD’s annual Education at a Glance report, the share of foreign students in German universities climbed from 7.1 percent in 2013 to 12.7 percent in 2023. Recent figures from the Federal Statistical Office show that in just six months, 492,600 international students were registered, representing 17 percent of all students nationwide.
The data highlights Germany’s growing global academic appeal, with 44 percent of international students coming from Asia and 31 percent from other European countries.
German Research Minister Dorothee Bär emphasized that many foreign students graduate in mathematics, information technology, natural sciences, and engineering, sectors vital for innovation and industry.
The OECD noted that the influx of international students not only strengthens Germany’s competitiveness and economy but also deepens global academic exchange.
