Military Deployed in Nepal to Quell Unrest After Prime Minister Resigns

Nepal’s military has been deployed and an indefinite curfew imposed in the capital of Kathmandu in a bid to quell widespread unrest, according to a report from Al Jazeera. The deployment follows a series of deadly protests that were initially sparked by a government plan to ban social media.

The demonstrations, fueled by deep-seated public anger over alleged corruption and high unemployment, escalated significantly after security forces killed 19 demonstrators. The protests led to the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and saw demonstrators storming and setting fire to government buildings. Despite the military’s deployment, the uproar in the capital has yet to subside.
