Flash Floods in Indonesia Kill at Least 11, Leave 13 Missing Across Bali and East Nusa Tenggara

Flash floods triggered by torrential rains have claimed at least 11 lives and left 13 people missing in two Indonesian provinces, Arab News reported Wednesday.

The severe weather, which began Monday, caused flooding and landslides in East Nusa Tenggara and Bali. In East Nusa Tenggara’s Nagekeo district, three family members were found dead after their home was swept away, with five others still missing. Meanwhile, in Bali, rescuers recovered eight bodies and reported eight missing persons.

Rivers burst their banks in Bali, affecting nine cities and districts. Mudslides and rising waters submerged over 112 neighborhoods, damaging roads, bridges, shops, homes, and causing landslides in multiple districts. Four people were trapped in a collapsed building in South Denpasar’s Kumbasari market area.

Thousands of homes and tourist areas were flooded, forcing power and water cuts. Over 800 residents took refuge in temporary shelters as floodwaters reached up to 2.5 meters. Rescue efforts were hindered by rugged terrain and ongoing rains.

Heavy seasonal rains from September to March frequently cause such disasters in Indonesia.
