UN Warns Over Half of Yemen’s Population Faces Severe Famine
———————————–
The United Nations has warned that starting September 2025, more than half of Yemen’s population—around 18 million people—will face severe hunger. According to Reuters, 41,000 of these individuals are in the fifth stage of the food crisis, considered famine and a humanitarian catastrophe.
A severe lack of funding has left only 17% of the necessary budget to assist 10.5 million people secured. The UN has called for immediate aid to prevent the spread of famine and save lives, noting that over 80% of the population relies on humanitarian assistance.
This warning highlights the extreme scale of Yemen’s humanitarian crisis and underscores the urgent need for a global response to prevent a widespread catastrophe.
