Rights Group Denounces Escalating Attacks on Syria’s Shia Community
……………..
The Center for Documentation of Violations Against Shia in Syria has condemned what it described as ongoing, systematic attacks targeting members of the Shia minority across several provinces. The organization said such incidents are no longer isolated cases but reflect a broader campaign aimed at intimidating Shia residents and forcing displacement.
In Homs province, armed groups reportedly threw hand grenades at Shia homes, causing injuries and material damage. One attack claimed the life of a young girl, Hala Qattan. Local activists also reported kidnappings allegedly carried out by factions linked to the so-called “General Security,” leaving the fate of several missing men unknown. More than 50 families in the city have reportedly faced similar violations.
In Hama’s countryside, a man identified as Abdullah al-Halabi was shot dead outside his home in Tel Khazna after returning under official assurances of safety. Meanwhile, in Aleppo’s countryside, the body of Qais Ali Gharib from Nubl was found after his abduction in al-Bab, while another victim, Ali Saeed al-Khatib, was killed after being kidnapped en route from Sayyida Zaynab toward Lebanon.
The rights group urged the United Nations and international organizations to press authorities and armed groups to end these violations and ensure the protection of Syria’s Shia population.
