Afghan Refugees with Legal Papers Forced to Live in Islamabad Parks
————————————————-
Afghan refugees who have been expelled from their homes in Islamabad, despite having legal documents, are now living in public parks, Khaama Press reported. These individuals and families are facing a growing humanitarian crisis, lacking food, shelter, and medical care.

According to a Reuters report, the displaced families are enduring extreme weather conditions, including scorching heat during the day and cold nights with rain. They also have limited access to food or medical assistance. The United Nations has warned that Pakistan’s intensified deportation efforts, which have affected even documented refugees, could lead to more than one million Afghans being forced to leave the country.

Dozens of police officers have been deployed near the park where the refugees are staying, and the refugees claim they have been repeatedly threatened with removal. In a related development, the UN reports that nearly 700,000 Afghans have been deported from Iran, contributing to the largest refugee return crisis since the Taliban regained power in Afghanistan. Aid organizations are urging Pakistan and Iran to uphold international obligations and ensure the humane and lawful treatment of Afghan refugees.
