Health authorities in Holy Najaf announced Tuesday a comprehensive medical plan to support pilgrims marking the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad’s martyrdom, an annual event held at the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) in the holy city.

Abdullah al-Ghazali, director of the Najaf Health Department, said preparations have been launched to accommodate the large number of visitors expected from across Iraq and abroad. The plan includes the deployment of 63 medical units and 74 ambulances, stationed along three main routes leading into the city.

The measures, organized in coordination with supporting agencies, aim to ensure the safety and well-being of participants during the pilgrimage. The health plan will be in effect from Wednesday, August 20, through Saturday, August 23.

Each year, Najaf witnesses heightened health, security, and service readiness during this commemoration, with medical teams positioned near key entry points and local authorities reinforcing logistical and security arrangements. Some provinces also declare public holidays to observe the occasion.
