New Delhi and Mumbai on Flood Alert Amid Heavy Rains
———————————
New Delhi and Mumbai faced severe flood warnings on Monday as heavy rains disrupted daily life, Arab News reported. In Mumbai, intense morning rainfall prompted the India Meteorological Department to issue a red alert for the city and suburbs for two days, advising residents to stay indoors unless necessary. The municipal corporation closed all schools and colleges. Flooding affected both low-lying and usually dry areas, with residents reporting knee-deep water and difficult commutes. Seven flood-related deaths were reported in Maharashtra state. Authorities warned that the next 10–12 hours were critical, urging precautionary measures.

In New Delhi, the Yamuna River’s water level rose dangerously due to releases from upstream barrages in Haryana. The Central Water Commission warned the river could exceed the danger mark of 205.33 meters. According to Delhi government protocols, thousands living along the river are to be evacuated if levels reach 206 meters. Both cities remain on high alert as monsoon rains continue to challenge infrastructure and safety.
