Holy Karbala Launches Major Cleanup Campaign After Arbaeen
……………….
The municipality of Holy Karbala has launched a large-scale campaign to clean and restore the city following the Arbaeen pilgrimage, as part of the “Cleanliness Week” initiative introduced by Governor Nassif Jassim al-Khattabi.
Municipal director Hassan al-Sharifi said the campaign began in the city’s fifth sector, covering Sayyid Jawda Street and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis Street, and will extend to the Najaf, Baghdad, and Babylon roads leading into Karbala, as well as the crowded old city center.
The plan includes washing main and side streets, replanting medians, and rehabilitating public green spaces. Local authorities have fully mobilized municipal resources to complete the effort. To support the campaign, the provincial government declared Sunday, August 17, a public holiday for service departments.
