US sanctions entities allegedly linked to conflict minerals trade in eastern DRC
——————————–
Based on the information provided by Anadolu Agency, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on four entities allegedly involved in the conflict minerals trade in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The sanctioned entities are a Congolese mining cooperative (CDMC), two Hong Kong-based companies (East Rise Corporation Limited and Star Dragon Corporation Limited), and an armed group (PARECO-FF).

The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) stated that these entities are accused of exploiting critical minerals through forced labor, violence against civilians, and smuggling operations that fuel instability in the region. The sanctions aim to support a stable mining sector in the Great Lakes region and secure global critical minerals supply chains.
